How to Set Up Unattended Access
Configure Kinect VNC to run as a service or daemon so it starts automatically and stays reachable at all times.

Unattended access means Kinect VNC starts automatically when the machine boots — with no user interaction. This is essential for servers, headless machines, or any workstation you need to reach remotely without someone physically present.
Windows: run as a service
In the Kinect VNC dashboard, navigate to Features. You'll see the Windows Service section. Toggle Install as Windows Service to on.
Once installed as a service:
- Kinect VNC starts before any user logs in
- It runs in the background regardless of who is logged in
- It survives reboots automatically
You can manage the service from Windows Services (services.msc) — it's listed as Kinect VNC Server.
macOS: run as a LaunchDaemon
On macOS, navigate to Features and enable macOS LaunchDaemon. This installs a launch daemon that starts Kinect VNC at system boot, before any user session.
The LaunchDaemon requires the app to have been installed via the PKG installer (not the DMG) to have the correct permissions.
Security checklist for unattended access
Before leaving a machine in unattended mode, confirm:
- Encryption is enabled — Security → Require Encryption = On
- Strong authentication — VNC password, system auth, or certificate
- IP access control — restrict by IP if the machine is internet-facing
- Max connections limit — prevent connection flooding
Verifying the setup
Restart the machine. Open a VNC viewer from another device and connect. If you get a connection prompt before logging in on the host, unattended access is working correctly.
